Dentist – Sebastian, FL
Meet Veronica Yu, DDS
At Sebastian Dental, we are thrilled to have Dr. Yu as a member of our team! Her extensive clinical knowledge and expertise enables her to help patients smile brighter every day. Although her path to oral healthcare wasn’t very traditional, she discovered her true passion in due time and has never regretted this career path for even a second. Are you interested in learning more about her? Just keep reading below.
Where Did You Study Dentistry?
Dr. Yu’s college career started at Brown University, where she mostly attended courses that would help her prepare for law school. Following graduation, she ended up working as a paralegal at an anti-trust litigation law firm. It was around this time when she realized that law briefs weren’t exactly a passion for her. Thankfully, she was able to realign her track and complete the medical courses she needed to apply for dental school.
Dr. Yu ended up graduating from Columbia University with her Doctor of Dental Surgery. She also completed advanced training at the Comprehensive Implantology Continuum, which expanded her knowledge extensively on every stage of state-of-the-art dental implant treatment. She has also attended a General Practice Residency at North Shore Long Island Jewish Hospital and became a Certified Invisalign Provider in 2016. She still considers continuing education to be a top priority and enjoys learning as much as possible for the sake of her valued patients.
Why Did You Become a Dentist?
Dr. Yu didn’t always want to pursue a career in medicine, but her father actually worked as a physician, which gave her an up-close-and-personal look at the world of healthcare. Once she realized how much joy her father gained from working closely with patients, as well as the big possibilities of being creative in dentistry, she felt certain that it would be a great fit for her talents and passions.
What Is Your Educational Background?
For her undergraduate education, Dr. Yu attended Brown University and focused mostly on courses that prepared her for law school. After graduation, she worked as a paralegal at an anti-trust litigation law firm as she readied applications. Then she realized that people, not law briefs, were her passion. Thanks to a post-baccalaureate program, Dr. Yu was able to complete the medical courses necessary to receive her dental degree.
She graduated from Columbia University with her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree, and she went on to complete a Comprehensive Implantology Continuum, expanding her knowledge on treatment planning, restorations, and placement of implants.
At North Shore Long Island Jewish Hospital, she completed a General Practice Residency, where she received further training in many dental specialties, including endodontics, pediatrics, oral surgery, prosthodontics, and the management of medical and dental emergencies. She also became a Certified Invisalign Provider in 2016. To this day, she continues to hone her dentistry skills through advanced training courses so that she can provide superior dental care for her patients.
What Do You Do Outside the Dental Office?
Originally from the Madison area, Dr. Yu has played tennis ever since she was a child – and it’s certainly much easier to enjoy the sport here in Florida! She has even attended USTA tournaments and obtained several autographs from famous tennis players, including three of the “Big Four” in men’s tennis. She’s also been classically trained in the violin, enjoys singing, and can play the guitar. Every once in a while, she loves cutting loose with friends and firing up her karaoke machine!
Dr. Yu married her husband, Dr. Derek Chenet, in September of 2019. Spending quality time with her new husband is definitely a top priority for her right now, and they look forward to many happy years together.
