Dentist – Sebastian, FL
Meet Veronica Yu, DDS
Although Dr. Yu didn’t start on the traditional path to dentistry early on, she eventually found her true passion and hasn’t looked back. At Sebastian Dental, we are incredibly proud to have her on our team. Her expertise and knowledge help us to serve patients in the community every day. If you want to learn more about her background, just keep reading the information below.
Why Did You Become a Dentist?
Dr. Yu’s father was a physician, giving her a peek into the healthcare field. However, Dr. Yu didn’t always wish to pursue a career in science or medicine. Once she saw how much joy her father gained from working with his patients and the potential to be creative in dentistry, she knew it was the perfect choice for her profession.
If you already know Dr. Yu, you likely have noticed that her favorite part of being a dentist is getting to know her patients, but you may not know that Dr. Yu has a liberal arts side as well. In music and sketching, she has developed exceptionally strong hand-eye coordination, further proving that dentistry is a great match for her talents.
What Is Your Educational Background?
For her undergraduate education, Dr. Yu attended Brown University and focused mostly on courses that prepared her for law school. After graduation, she worked as a paralegal at an anti-trust litigation law firm as she readied applications. Then she realized that people, not law briefs, were her passion. Thanks to a post-baccalaureate program, Dr. Yu was able to complete the medical courses necessary to receive her dental degree.
She graduated from Columbia University with her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree, and she went on to complete a Comprehensive Implantology Continuum, expanding her knowledge on treatment planning, restorations, and placement of implants.
At North Shore Long Island Jewish Hospital, she completed a General Practice Residency, where she received further training in many dental specialties, including endodontics, pediatrics, oral surgery, prosthodontics, and the management of medical and dental emergencies. She also became a Certified Invisalign Provider in 2016. To this day, she continues to hone her dentistry skills through advanced training courses so that she can provide superior dental care for her patients.
What Do You Do Outside the Dental Office?
In September 2019, Dr. Yu married her husband, Dr. Derek Chenet. They are enjoying their time together as newlyweds.
Originally from Madison, CT, Dr. Yu has loved playing tennis since she was young, and the Florida weather has made continuing her love for tennis that much easier. During her time playing tennis, she has regularly attended USTA tournaments and obtained autographs from some of the most well-known players, including the “Big Four” in men’s tennis. So far, she has three out of four of their signatures and hopes to meet the fourth member someday!
Dr. Yu also has an extensive background in the arts. She was classically trained in the violin since the age of 7, and she participated in many competitions growing up. She also enjoys singing and playing guitar. Although she believes practicing music helps keep her skills sharp, she can also cut loose with friends and fire up her karaoke machine every once in a while!
