What is In-Office Teeth Whitening?

At Sebastian Dental, we use Colgate Optic White in-office teeth whitening because it offers a variety of benefits and is a hassle-free procedure for our on-the-go patients. After conducting an oral examination and determining you’re a good candidate for the treatment, we’ll record the shade of your teeth. To protect your oral tissues from coming into direct contact with the whitening solution, we’ll place a barrier around your teeth. We’ll also place eyewear on you to protect you from the light used to cure and activate the whitening gel.

The process takes place in multiple 10-minute treatment increments until we reach your desired shade of brightness. After applying the whitening gel and curing light, we’ll wipe off the product on your teeth and reapply it. Typically, the process takes about three applications to complete. Finally, we’ll remove the protective barrier, determine the final shade of your teeth, and send you home with a touch-up kit to help maintain the results.

In-Office Teeth Whitening FAQs

Woman with questions about teeth whitening in Sebastian

In-office teeth whitening is one of our most popular cosmetic treatments, and it’s easy to see why! This easy and affordable service can take years of stains off your pearly whites and rewind the clock on your smile in as little as one appointment! For your convenience, we’ve gathered some of the most common questions we get about in-office teeth whitening below. If you’d like to learn more, don’t hesitate to give us a call and schedule your consultation!

Will a Professional Teeth Whitening Treatment Hurt My Teeth?

At Sebastian Dental, we’re proud to offer reliable treatments for brightening your smile without causing sensitivity. Before your treatment even starts, we’ll inspect your mouth for any signs of tooth decay or gum disease. These issues can make any whitening treatment uncomfortable, so we’ll be sure to address them first if they’re present.

During your whitening treatment, we’ll place a barrier around your teeth to protect your gums, lips, and cheeks from coming in contact with the whitening agent. It’s normal to feel the slightest amount of tooth sensitivity for a day or two after your treatment. Any discomfort you feel should be very easy to manage and fade on its own very quickly.

How Long Will My Results Last After In-Office Teeth Whitening?

Your teeth whitening results have the potential to last for a year or more! However, this depends heavily on your oral health habits. For instance, limiting your exposure to stain-causing foods and drinks and practicing great oral hygiene will help you make the most out of your results. On the other hand, not brushing your teeth frequently and smoking or chewing tobacco products can quickly discolor your teeth again. Visiting us regularly for cleanings and touch-ups can also go a long way in keeping your smile sparkling.

Does Professional Teeth Whitening Work on All Types of Tooth Discoloration?

Thanks to the powerful, professional-grade whitening products we use, an in-office whitening treatment can brighten nearly anyone’s smile. However, there are certain stains that may be better addressed with a different treatment. For example, if your tooth discoloration comes from overexposure to fluoride in childhood, certain antibiotics, or injury to the inside of the tooth, we may not recommend teeth whitening. In these cases, we’ll usually suggest services like dental bonding or porcelain veneers to help you get the dazzling smile you deserve.

How Does In-Office Teeth Whitening Differ from Store-Bought Whiteners?

If you’ve tried store-bought teeth whitening kits before, you probably already know that many of these products can cause gum irritation and tooth sensitivity while only achieving subpar results. At Sebastian Dental, we use whitening ingredients and methods that have been tested and proven by the American Dental Association to be both effective and safe. When administered by one of our highly trained dentists, you can rest assured that you’ll get the results you want without gambling on your oral health.

If you’d like to see if teeth whitening is right for you, give us a call today to schedule your consultation and start your journey towards a gleaming smile.
